This May Day we celebrate the ancient Celtic Earth Festival of Beltane, the cross-quarter day midway between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice, on our journey ‘round the Sun.
It’s a time of burgeoning, blossoming life bursting forth with unstoppable enthusiasm.
A time of firsts, with life awakening from Winter’s slumber, everyday new beauty being born.
The first fresh-faced flowers to grace the forest floor are the Yellow Woodland Violets —such a joy to behold!
Soon followed by the flamboyant Swamp Lanterns shining down in the creek bottom.
The little creek itself newly freshening with snow-melt from up in the alpine, tumbles merrily down the mountainside with new-found exuberance.
Robins return with their cheerful “Cheer-up, cheerios”.
The woodland air fills with the aroma of Balm of Gilead, wafting it’s warm healing scent from each tip of the new Cottonwood sprigs.
Wild Strawberry and Saskatoon blooms open on warming sunny hillsides, promising sweet treats to come.
The first Bumble-Bee is soon heard busily buzzing the new flowers,
and the first little blue Butterfly flutters by.
Breezes touch skin with a new-found gentleness.
The whole world greens before our eyes as fresh new leaves burst from every branch,
Ferns unfurl their wondrous fiddlehead spirals,
and even the Evergreens now begin to awaken and send out bright baby needles.
Everywhere to behold is reverence for life, and all life is revelling in the joy of it.
Let us take our cues from Nature.
Let’s fully feel this joy, this love of life, take it deep in, soothing and refreshing and energizing our own beings —and then let’s send it out in waves of love to those whose hearts are closed and hardened, sending healing joyful love out into this hurting world.
Blessed be
