SAMHAIN

The Eve of All-Hallows,
All-Holy

As we turn towards the comforting dark
in our spiralling dance around our Star,
we pass through the in-between time
Of Endings, and Beginnings
Of Mystery, and Magic
Of Tricks, and Treats

Aspen gold and the sun-fire of yellow Birch,
Hawthorn’s warm rosy-oranges and Bracken’s soft browns,
all set against the deep dark drama of the Evergreens,
deeper and darker than ever in the intensity of the late October light.

As we ready ourselves for Winter’s rest
we embrace the enchantment of this twilight time of the year,
midway betwixt Autumn’s Equinox and Winter’s Solstice.
Shifting shapes, and shedding what no longer serves,
we cross the threshold.

Let the fires be lit
Let the dancing begin
Let the cool air calm
feverish skin
Let the spells be cast
Let the ancestors in
Let bewitchment charm
her soul’s own kin
