The word “Solstice” means “sun standing still”, and at this time on the Wheel of the Year our Sun pauses for a few days, at the height of its power, as it ushers in Summer here in the North. The longest day of the year is Sunday June 21st.
This Threshold is the perfect time for us to pause, hold still, and reflect on where in our lives and in our world more clarity might be needed. Shine light on the murky corners, on the areas of dark and entangled undergrowth . . . and let’s see how we might illuminate the shadows on the path ahead. Let us seek now the clarity that has been so elusive.
The trees will be basking in the great Sun’s full strength on these Solstice days, before they begin to think about settling back and focussing on the fruiting to come as the days shorten.
Let us take our cue from the trees, rise high and embrace all the brilliance that’s on offer from our ultimate benefactor, our Sun.
Let us stand tall, reaching upward for our own source of power, sense where we should be shining it in our own lives and in service to the greater whole . . . and find the courage to do so.
Stop, raise our faces to the Sun, breathe . . . and bathe in the bright warm clarity.
