Equinox, ‘equal night

It’s the first day of Spring here in the north, a time when Earth pauses in her journey ’round the Sun as the dark and the light, the night and the day, are in equal balance.
A threshold.
Time to take a breath, open our eyes, stretch, find our balance, give some thought as to what the dark half of the year brought us and what we might bring to the coming light half . . . and then arise to go gently into the awakening year.

Let’s take our cue from nature as she begins to unfurl, all in good time, around us.

Varied Thrush / Frog / Mallard pair / Alder catkins / Hazelnut catkins & flower

It’s the magical time of  ‘firsts’ in the forest, as all is awakening to Springtime.

This past week here in my woods has seen the arrival of the first Varied Thrush of the year, sounding its wonderful otherworldly overtones; the first brave Frog began singing, harbinger of the symphony chorus soon to ring out from the wetland. I saw the Mallard pair today, newly arrived back to the pond; and the Chickadees are singing their Spring song. The catkins are decorating the Alders and the Hazelnuts are even already showing their wild red teeny-tiny spiky flowers!
An exciting, emergent time of the year.
